How to Break in Your New Cowboy Boots

A new pair of cowboy boots is a beautiful thing, but you cannot wear them straight out of the box to work. You have to break them in first. Everyone has his own theory on what works best, but there are a few tried-and-true tips on how to break in your new cowboy boots.
First: Get a pair of boots that fit correctly.
The most important step takes place in the store: make sure you buy the right size for your feet. Try the boots on and walk around. They should fit snug but not tight. Do not buy one size smaller than you would otherwise, as some may suggest; if the boots are tight and painful now, they are sure to always fit tightly and painfully.
Second: Take your boots out dancing.
Get yourself to a hoedown and work out that new-boot stiffness by dancing all night. If you hit the dance floor on Friday, your feet are sure to stay sore all weekend, but your new boots are sure to have loosened up. Then you are all set to wear them to work on Monday.
Third: Have them stretched out.
If dancing fails to give your boots that desired lived-in feeling, try taking them back to the western store and asking them to stretch your boots out for you. Any reputable western store can do this. If the store where you bought your boots does not understand what you mean, then you may want to shop elsewhere in future.
Fourth: If all else fails, give up.
If you have tried everything and still cannot get your boots to fit you right and feel good on your feet, then either give them away or return them to the store. It is never too late to start again with a new pair.
